Highlights 2023 Vienna

The 150th anniversary of the World Expo in 2023 is also an occasion for many Viennese institutions to dedicate themselves to the topic. A first highlight is set to take place in Vienna’s Prater in spring 2023: PANORAMA VIENNA, a new exhibition venue of a special kind, will open as a reminiscence of the legendary Rotunda. PANORAMA VIENNA will be 34 meters high, and inside it will display images that can only be experienced in their size and dimension as a panorama.

The anniversary is also a major theme in Vienna’s exhibition venues: the Vienna Museum of Technology is hosting a special exhibition entitled “Women At Work. 150 Years of the Women’s Pavilion at the Vienna World’s Fair”. The Weltmuseum Wien, where a separate room has always been dedicated to the World Exhibition of 1873, will also have its own program to mark the anniversary. The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts has two exhibitions in its program that relate to 1873: The first is about the trend towards Orientalism, which was triggered by the Vienna World Exhibition. On the other hand, the MAK is celebrating one of the most traditional Viennese companies with its own exhibition on J. & L. Lobmeyr. The renowned crystal glass manufacturer was part of the 1873 World Exhibition and also furnished the Imperial Pavilion with numerous exhibits. At the same time, Lobmeyr will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2023. Company anniversary. And the city is celebrating 150 years of Viennese water with numerous events.
